Lezing internationaal trauma-expert prof. dr. Kathryn Magruder: Trauma as a Public Health and Clinical Issue: How can we work together?
“Trauma is a global problem and is causally related to PTSD and other mental health problems. Since 1980 when the diagnosis of PTSD was first codified, a number of clinical approaches have been developed, and refinements continue to be made. However, public health approaches to trauma have lagged. Unlike many prevalent public health problems, there has not been an organized approach to reducing trauma-related problems. In order to make a true dent in the rates of these problems, clinicians and public health researchers need to work together. This talk will explore differences and overlaps between the clinical and public approaches to trauma, highlighting opportunities for collaboration.”
